Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training

This qualification is designed to help develop those with knowledge and/or experience in gym and fitness instruction to pursue a personal training career.

We’re here to help you get started. The Fitness and Health Academy provides accredited funded training to take anyone with an interest in personal fitness and help them become a successful personal trainer.

This is a level 3 qualification, comprising 7 required units (36 credits). This qualification recognises the skills, knowledge and competence needed for an individual to work as a personal trainer on an unsupervised basis. This course will help people establish a career as a personal trainer and build a career in the fitness industry that allows them to have flexible working hours as well as be their own boss.

The successful learner will be able to:
  • understand the principles of health, fitness and exercise.
  • understand anatomy and physiology for health and exercise.
  • apply nutrition principles to a physical activity programme.
  • provide baseline assessments, one-to-one personal training, nutritional/dietary advice and progressive fitness programming, tailored to each client’s requirements.
  • improve a client’s well-being, enhance their fitness levels and help them train for sports events.
  • encourage clients to train effectively and safely and to support them through the process.
  • plan and instruct gym-based exercise.

  • Anatomy and physiology (6 credits)
  • Health and safety in a fitness environment (2 credits)
  • Exercise, fitness and personal health (4 credits)
  • Supporting clients during exercise and physical activity (2 credits)
  • The principles of nutrition during a physical activity programme (6 credits)
  • Programming clients’ personal training (7 credits)
  • Delivering personal training to clients (9 credits)
